How to Properly Install Your Pool Chlorinator.

Read this post to learn the steps to correctly install your pool chlorinator for optimal performance and efficiency.

How to install the Best Pool Chlorinators

Positioning of a Pool Chlorinator.

Proper installation of your pool chlorinator ensures it operates efficiently, saving you time and money in the long run. Begin by selecting an appropriate location for the chlorinator, close to your pool’s filtration system but away from extreme heat or direct sunlight and preferably out of the rain.

Ensure the chlorinator power module (control unit) is at least 1 metre above the ground and at least 2 metres away from the pool’s edge. Most chlorinators are installed near the pool’s return line, ensuring even chlorine distribution.

Plumbing.

Next, connect the chlorinator to the filtration system. This involves attaching the chlorinator’s flow cell to the return line of the pool. Ideally, any plumbing should be performed by a qualified plumber or a pool industry service technician but this is not a legal requirement, so the home handyman can do this, assuming they take due care not to apply any priming fluid to the clear housing for the chlorinator cell and they ensure all connections are tight, to avoid leaks or disruptions in flow.

Electrical Connections.

If your chlorinator model requires electrical connections, ensure it is properly wired to a dedicated circuit and powered on. Many simply have a standard plug already attached, so you can simply plug into an outdoor power socket. However, if yours does not have a plug, or you don’t have an outdoor powere socket close by, you will need to get a qualified electrician to add this for you.

Calibration.

After installation, check the unit’s settings and calibration to ensure it’s ready to operate. Your pool chlorinator will come with instructions on how to do this for your specific brand and model. Set the chlorine output according to your pool’s size and water condition. Learn how to select the right chlorinator to match the size of you pool by reading our article How to Select the Right Size Pool Chlorinator. Run the chlorinator for a test cycle and monitor its function to confirm that chlorine is being generated and dispersed evenly.

Which KChlor Pool Chlorinator is best for you?

It depends on the size of your pool. To calculate how many litres are in your pool simply multiply the length by the width and then the average depth (depth at the deep end plus depth at the shallow end divided by 2).

Even if your pool is not rectangular in shape, this is still a good way to measure it, as it is always a good idea to overestimate the pool size anyway, so the chlorinator you choose does not have to work too hard to maintain it. Therefore any curves in the pool can be ignored.
